Senior Associate Dean Fran Bouchoux ’87 Appointed Chair of National Association of Women Judges’ Amicus Committee
Fran Bouchoux, Senior Associate Dean at Rutgers School of Law–Newark, has been appointed 2011-2012 Chair of the Amicus Committee of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ).
Dean Bouchoux, a 1987 graduate of the law school, was co-chair of the NAWJ 33rd Annual Conference, held at Rutgers and other Newark venues in October 2011. Hon. Sue Pai Yang ’84, judge of the New Jersey Workers’ Compensation Court, was conference chair. “Global Women’s Issues,” one of the top two best-attended conferences NAWJ has presented, attracted more than 500 people, 50 of whom were international attendees from 23 different countries.
“It is my honor to have Fran serve as Chair of this important committee,” said NAWJ President Judge Amy L. Nechtem of Massachusetts Juvenile Court. “She was a true pleasure to work with on the NAWJ New Jersey Conference.”
The National Association of Women Judges works to preserve judicial independence, ensure equal justice and access to the courts for women, minorities and other historically disfavored groups, increase the numbers and advancement of women judges at all levels, and provide cutting-edge judicial education. The organization’s Amicus Committee seeks to ensure that amicus judicii, law clerk, and law student members are fully included and reflected in all aspects of NAWJ membership, networking, educational programming, and other activities. The committee also communicates with appropriate organizations when there has been an attack on a woman judge on the basis of gender.
Dean Bouchoux earned a B.A. in history from Rutgers College and a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Newark, where she was editor-in-chief of the Rutgers Computer and Technology Law Journal and the Saul Tischler Scholar. After graduation, she was associated with the New York office of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP where her practice areas included commercial litigation and bankruptcy. She joined the law school in 1993. Dean Bouchoux serves as vice chair of the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Women in the Courts and is a member of the board of directors of New Jersey Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.
