Richard Badolato ’65 to Receive NJ State Bar Foundation’s Highest Honor

Richard J. Badolato, a Class of 1965 graduate of Rutgers School of Law–Newark, has been selected to receive the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s highest award, the Medal of Honor, for his longtime commitment to fostering professionalism in the practice of law. The annual award, given for outstanding contributions to improving the justice system in New Jersey, will be presented at the Foundation’s Annual Medal of Honor Awards Reception on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the New Jersey Law Center.

“I am honored and humbled to be the recipient of the Medal of Honor,” said Badolato in the Foundation’s announcement of his award. “To be in the company of all the past awardees makes this award very special and something I will treasure forever.”

A partner at Connell Foley LLP since 1982, Badolato is an expert in the area of civil trial litigation. His experience on the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts includes medical, legal, and dental malpractice; products liability; all forms of general liability; construction litigation; automobile litigation; insurance coverage and policy interpretation; subrogation recovery, fire and theft losses; and declaratory judgment proceedings.

Richard Badolato began his career in 1965 as a judicial clerk to the Hon. James Giuliano, Essex County assignment judge. In 1966 he joined the firm of Morgan, Melhuish, Monaghan & Spiegelvogel, Esqs., as an associate, subsequently rising to managing partner and then partner.

He has received numerous awards for his service to the profession, including the Middlesex County Trial Lawyers Association Herman L. Breitkopf Award; American Board of Trial Advocates’ John B. LaVecchia Achievement Award; James J .McLaughlin Award by the Civil Trial Bar section; Seton Hall School of Law’s Peter W. Rodino Outstanding Achievement Award; and New Jersey State Bar Association’s NJSBA Professional Lawyer of the Year Award. 

Among other honors, Badolato is a member of the International Society of Defense Counsel, a Diplomat of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and a Master in the Richard J. Hughes American Inns of Court.
