Public Advocate Ronald K. Chen, Class of 1983, to Address Law School Graduates on May 26
May 24, 2006 –The Honorable Ronald K. Chen, Public Advocate of the State of New Jersey, will deliver the convocation address at the May 26 commencement for Rutgers School of Law–Newark. The ceremony will take place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center beginning at 10 am. The Juris Doctor degree will be conferred on approximately 220 students.
Chen received his J.D. degree with high honors in 1983 from Rutgers–Newark, where he was editor-in-chief of the Rutgers Law Review and the Saul Tischler Scholar. After graduation, he clerked for the Honorable Leonard I. Garth, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Before joining the Rutgers faculty in 1987, he was associated with the New York law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1995 until his appointment in January as Public Advocate.
George C. Thomas III, Professor of Law and Judge Alexander P. Waugh, Sr. Distinguished Scholar, will be the faculty speaker and Nicole Crifo, Class of 2006, will be the student speaker.
