Law School to Honor David L. Harris ’79, One of Country’s Top Litigators, at Minority Student Program Annual Banquet

On Thursday, April 14, 2011, Rutgers School of Law–Newark will celebrate the 43rd anniversary of its Minority Student Program (MSP) at a banquet at Nanina’s in the Park, Belleville. The banquet will honor and feature as keynote speaker David L. Harris ’79, member of the firm at Lowenstein Sandler P.C. The theme of the banquet is “Impacting the Profession and the Community.”

Harris, a go-to trial attorney, has nearly three decades of trial, appellate and arbitration experience in several jurisdictions, emphasizing intellectual property, trade secrets, antitrust, and other complex business litigation. He has been recognized by clients and peers in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business every year that the Chambers guide has evaluated practices important to the U.S. business community. He is also featured in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers in business litigation.

The recipient of several awards for his pro bono work, Harris has supervised the firm’s nationally recognized pro bono program and the Lowenstein Fellowship Program of loaning attorneys to Newark Legal Services Corporation. In addition, he has chaired the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and the Volunteer Lawyers for Justice of Essex County. Past president of the Network of Trial Law Firms, Harris has taught Antitrust Law and Civil Trial Practice at Rutgers School of Law–Newark.

In recognizing the value of different backgrounds in the classroom and different perspectives in the workplace, the Minority Student Program was a pioneer in promoting representation of all segments of society in law school and the legal and business worlds. More than 2,500 students have participated in the program and graduated from the law school. MSP alumni can be found on the bench, in the U.S. Congress, in private practice, government agencies, major corporations, legislative bodies, public interest organizations, and academic institutions across the country.
