Ellen Lewis Rice

Legal Research and Writing Instructor

Ms. Rice received her bachelor’s degree from Douglass College of Rutgers University and her J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Newark, where she was an editor of the Rutgers Law Review. She served as law clerk to the Honorable Arnold M. Stein of the Superior Court of New Jersey and served for two years as an assistant prosecutor with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. In private practice, Ms. Rice has worked in the areas of tort law, health law, and commercial litigation.

Ms. Rice taught Legal Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy at Seton Hall School of Law where she was also Director of the Writing Specialists Program. While at Seton Hall, she coached award-winning interscholastic moot court teams. Ms. Rice has also taught for many years in the Legal Research and Writing Program at Rutgers. She is the author of numerous articles on legal writing.
