Commencement 2013

Congratulations to all students who are graduating on May 24th!

Commencement exercises will take place beginning at 10 am on Friday, May 24, in the Prudential Hall at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). Vincent Warren ’93, Executive Director of the Center for Constitutional Rights and recipient of the Alumni Association’s 2012 Fannie Bear Besser Award for Public Service, will deliver the convocation address.

Assistant Professor Taja-Nia Henderson will be the Faculty Speaker and the Class of 2013’s Daris Jackson will be the Student Speaker. The ceremony will conclude by 12:30 pm.

Guest tickets, invitations, and caps and gowns are available from Justine Dilworth in Room 170 or from Dean Rothman.

Each graduating student is allotted five tickets for guests, although more are usually available to meet your special needs. Two tickets will be given for seating in the NJPAC Orchestra or Grand Tier, with the rest for one of the higher balconies. If someone in your party needs disabled seating, please notify Ms. Dilworth or Dean Rothman. Also, please let your guests know that tickets are absolutely necessary to get into NJPAC.

For some frequently asked questions about tickets and other Commencement arrangements, click here.

To receive your cap and gown, you will need to turn in your locker key, complete the Career Services questionnaire, and be clear of all other obligations, such as library fines. YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR CAP AND GOWN BY FRIDAY, MAY 17TH. YOU CANNOT PICK IT UP THE MORNING OF COMMENCEMENT. You will not receive a hood when you get your cap and gown. Each student is individually hooded during the ceremony.

Graduates must check in at the lower atrium of the law school by 9:00 am on May 24. You cannot just meet up with your classmates at NJPAC. A light breakfast will be available beginning at 8:30 am. You will receive a ticket for your seat in the Orchestra and line up in alphabetical order for the procession to NJPAC.

Your guests should go directly to NJPAC, where the doors will open at about 9:15 am. Guest seating, while unassigned, is “tier specific,” which means your guests should arrive early to have the best choice of seats in their tier.

After the ceremony, there will be time to meet your guests and take photos before returning your cap and gown to the rental company personnel who will be stationed outside of NJPAC. All regalia — cap, gown and hood — are rented and must be returned. You are then invited back to the law school for soft drinks or a glass of wine and light refreshments.

Free parking will be available in Deck 1. NJPAC parking facilities are also available, at their usual rates.
