You can make a gift, pledge, pledge payment, or planned gift to the fund of your choice. The types of gifts include cash, securities, a bequest through your will, real estate, savings bonds, life insurance, and IRA distributions and more. There are many choices, which the development team and Rutgers University Foundation Department of Planning Giving can assist you with.
MAKE A GIFT
When you make a gift, you are directly and immediately helping the law school. You decide where you want your gift to go. The broad choices are the Rutgers School of Law–Newark Academic Excellence Fund, the Scholarship Fund, and the Law Library Endowment. You may also specify an area or fund of your choice. Visit the Case for Rutgers School of Law–Newark for more options.
MAKE A PLEDGE
When you make a pledge, you are making a commitment to pay in the future. No funds are immediately transferred. You have the choice of making a one-time payment or fulfilling your pledge monthly, quarterly or annually.
MAKE A STOCK GIFT
A gift of stock with a long-term capital gain is generally more cost-effective than gifts of cash. You are entitled to a charitable deduction for the full current market value and are exempt from any capital gains tax. Please remember to designate the fund of your choice and Rutgers School of Law–Newark as the recipient in the comment box at the bottom of the online form.
Through gift planning it is possible to reduce or eliminate federal and state taxes owed on the value of a gift. This is an attractive feature that can work in your favor when it comes to paying taxes on income, capital gains, gifts, and your estate assets. For example, if you are 60 or older, you have the option of supporting Rutgers School of Law–Newark in a way that provides you income for life.
